Message from the Children's Hospital Director

Severance Hospital has guided Korea’s health as the nation’s leading medical institution since it was first established under the name Kwang-hyewon in 1885.

Severance was first in Korea to promote quality medical care by providing specialized medical treatment through its Rehabilitation Hospital, Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Hospital, Eye and ENT Hospital, Center for Child and Adolescent Health, and Emergency Care Center.
Since 1992, staff of the Department of Pediatrics and other related pediatric care specialists expressed the need to establish a separate Children’s Hospital to better serve the needs of our pediatric patients. As a result, we established a Center for Child and Adolescent Health in 1999, which served as a semi-children’s hospital.

Then in 2004, it was decided to construct a separate Severance Children's Hospital(SCH), through the renovation of a special ward of Severance Hospital. Thereafter, a committee for the opening of Severance Children’s Hospital was formed and regularly met regarding the hospital’s design and organizational plan. The hospital official held its dedication ceremony on June 15, 2006.

Recently, we established a Sister Institution Relationship with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia(CHOP), and has held two joint symposiums thus far.

SCH will grow as a hospital with international competitiveness through the promotion of latest medical technology, and deliver the love and joy of recovery through high quality medical services, and maintain its position as trusted hospital by respecting children's rights and providing a level of care which ensures that children continue to choose our children hospital. We will also lead medical technology through ceaseless education and research.

We are doing our best to share love by providing high technology medical services through advanced technologies, and striving to progressively achieve patient satisfaction, so we may contribute to making the lives of our pediatric patients as comfortable as possible.
